Hydrogen – a fiery racer
It’s almost impossible to catch!
Safety precautions
Attention! All experiments are performed by professionals. Do not attempt.
Process description
As the aluminum dissolves in the sodium hydroxide solution, hydrogen is released. After a few minutes, the flask is completely filled with it, and when ignited, it begins to burn. After the silicon tube is attached, the hydrogen mixes with atmospheric oxygen in it. When ignited, this mixture of gases reacts throughout the tube – and this is how the fiery racer appears!
