С21Н20O6 – сurcumin – is a bright-yellow powder produced by some plants. It dissolves in alkalis to create a reddish-brown solution. Curcumin is used as color additive to tint prepared foods and cosmetics orange-yellow. Its specific smell and interesting taste led to its use as a flavoring. Curcumin is under intense investigation as a potential anti-inflammatory medicine. Interestingly, it is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is used as a healing agent, to improve digestion, and in cases of mouth disease.
