Silica gel

Chemical compound:
silica gel
Common name:

Silica gel is a dried gel obtained from supersaturated solutions of silicic acids (nSiO2·mH2O). Silica gel absorbs moisture well thanks to its complex network of internal pores – the inner surface of one pellet can have an area of up to 800 square meters per gram. It is widely used to protect objects such as paintings, photographs, manuscripts, antiques, leather goods, and furniture from moisture, both during transportation and in storage. Additionally, silica gel is nonreactive and nontoxic, which allows for its use in various chemicals, medicines, and medical equipment. Today, silica gel has also found prolific use in everyday life, such as in cat litter.
