Ca(OH)2 – сalcium hydroxide – is a white powder that is quite insoluble in water. This compound is also called slaked lime, caustic lime, and hydrated lime. It is used as a special reagent in water and sewage treatments – it forms a fluffy solid that can remove smaller particles from water and contribute to a clearer product. It is also used to neutralize acidic solutions (including wastewater from manufacturing). It is widely used in the construction industry. Ca(OH)2 is often added to whitewash, mortar, and plaster. It is also used as a disinfectant in root canal procedures.
