The best bat ever!

Meet your personal Halloween bat!

Safety precautions

Warning! Only under adult supervision.

Equipment

  • glass mug;
  • orange and black gouache,; *paintbrush;
  • metal wire;
  • aluminum foil;
  • pencil;
  • scissors;
  • thread.

Step-by-step instructions

Coat a glass mug with orange paint. Add black eyes and a sinister smile, and insert a candle. Draw an outline of a bat on some aluminum foil, cut it out, poke a hole in it, and pass a thread through the hole. Make a wire stand arching over the mug and hang the bat on it. Light the candle – the bat takes flight!

Process description

The candle heats the surrounding air, making it less dense. The hot air then rises, creating so-called convection flows. These flows are strong enough to make the lightweight bat flutter.
