Process description

Calcium carbide reacts with water, releasing flammable acetylene gas. Acetylene quickly fills the pumpkin and, when set on fire, reacts with oxygen. The reaction is extremely rapid and causes the pumpkin to “explode.” Gesundheit, Halloween spirit!

Even more scientific secrets await you in safe experiments from the MEL Science subscription!
