CuO – copper(II) oxide – is a black crystalline solid. It is found in nature as a mineral known as tenorite. Сopper(II) oxide is used to tint ceramics, enamel, and glass blue and green. In laboratories, it is used to examine substances’ reducing properties – the substance in question reduces the copper(II) oxide to metallic copper, and the black color of the oxide turns into the pinkish-orange color of copper. It can also be used as a dietary supplement in animal feed.
