Process de­scrip­tion

Dry ice con­sists of sol­id car­bon diox­ide, which sub­limes into gas in wa­ter. As it bub­bles through the liq­uid, it cap­tures small droplets, which leads to the ap­pear­ance of the thick white wa­ter va­por! When the bal­loon is struck, the va­por leaves the cup, but the air slows the edges of each por­tion of va­por more than the cen­ter. You can even ex­tin­guish a can­dle with such a mech­a­nism!
