A simple way to make unique T-shirt

How to decorate T-shirt using bleach

If you’ve always wanted to be a designer but didn't know how to start, here’s a simple way to create a unique T-shirt at home!

Safety precautions

  • Attention! Observe safety precautions when handling these substances.
  • Conduct this experiment with protective gloves, eyewear, and a mask.

Reagents and equipment

  • colorful T-shirt;
  • plastic or glass protective liner;
  • bleach (15% sodium hypochlorite solution);
  • glass dish;
  • brush.

Step-by-step instructions

Insert the liner into the T-shirt to protect the back. Use a brush to apply bleach to the front of the T-shirt. Your drawing will “appear” over time.

Process description

Bleach usually contains sodium hypochlorite NaOCl. Hypochlorite ion is a strong oxidizing agent. It breaks bonds in the dye molecules, changing their structure and causing the fabric to lighten. Wash the T-shirt before wearing.
