Physics - Phase transitions

In this MEL Academy lesson your child will:

  • learn the nature of phase transitions
  • make the water boil with their bare hands (totally safe!)
  • melt the ice without heat

Prepare in advance

In this lesson, we will conduct "Heatless water boiling and ice melting" DIY experiments. Prepare in advance household materials shown below.

DIY Materials

  hot water from tap/kettle (not boiling!)
  measuring syringe (e.g. from baby medicine bottle like Calpol) 50ml
  sticky dots (for worksheet)
  ice cubes (4-5)
  freezer
  salt
  teaspoon
  towel to dry your hands
  glass or jar
