“Homemade fizzy drink” experiment
How to make soda at home in 30 seconds
This experiment is awesome – not only are you studying a chemical process, but you also get a glass of refreshing soda as a reward! This is a 100% DIY experiment!
Perform this experiment under adult supervision.
Reagents and equipment:
- baking soda;
Sprinkle a teaspoon of baking soda into a glass, add sugar to taste, squeeze a lemon into the concoction, and add water. The soda is ready!
Lemon juice contains a number of acids, mostly citric acid. These acids react with baking soda to form carbon dioxide. As carbon dioxide dissolves poorly in water, it is gradually released in the form of bubbles, making the drink fizzy.
