Na2CO3 – sodium carbonate – is a white, water-soluble salt. Sodium carbonate is the chemical name for soda ash and washing soda. It is mainly utilized in glass and chemical production. Sodium carbonate is a key component in laundry detergents and other household cleaning products. Na2CO3 can also be used as a food additive; many baked goods, fizzy drinks, and medications contain the carbonate. Pure Na2CO3, however, can irritate the eyes, respiratory tract, and skin.
